a) Pre-Processing:This filter can be used as a first input filter for a video capture,
thus taking care of the pre-processing part (saturation, hue, contrast, brightness, etc…) of your video stream.
This filter can also be used as a simple dump pre-processor: just give it an output path, and it will write out all the differences in frame/subtitle index for each frame of the video.
This is useful when you want to obtain the hardcoded subtitle list from a video stream for example.
b) Temporal Processing:
The idea is to scan the video frame by frame, and try to match each frame to the previous one.
The technique used for this is the differential one (so called “reference frame”), which requires an previous frame on which to compare a new one.
Since we know the frame rate, we can easily compute the frame difference by looking at a certain number of frames before and after the current one.
Since there are always some noise or errors in the video frame (pixels not present, broken pixels, noise pixels,…) the matching process between two frames can be “erratic”, and thus not 100% reliable.
To solve this, we can run the filter again on the video after pre-processing, but only for the frames where the matching succeeded, i.e. only for the valid frame pairs.
The resulting differences are compressed into two bitmaps, one for the previous frame, and one for the new one.
The bitmaps are compressed into.bmp files, and this process can be repeated for every frame of the video, and the resulting bitmaps can be indexed by the corresponding time index.
c) Post-Processing:
Once we have all the bits differences between each frame, we create a time index of the whole file.
The value of the time index is in fact the difference between the time of the previous bitmap and the time of the current one (we need the delta for the time compression).
Then, for each frame, we can compress the bitmap corresponding to the difference, and write the resulting file into a.vob file.
The resulting files can be opened directly by VOBSub or SubRip.
The SubLog Extractor Filter can also be used without the second pre-processing stage.

It can take either a filter or a filter list (either xml or lua file) to process as input.
