AutoCAD is a vector graphics software package for designing and modeling projects, created by Autodesk. It is a 3D CAD application and supports the engineering and architecture industries. Many of the functions of AutoCAD are similar to those of Autodesk’s other products such as AutoCAD LT, AutoCAD Architecture and other Autodesk software that are targeted at specific industries such as architectural design and construction.
AutoCAD first came about in 1982. The name of the first version of AutoCAD was AutoCAD Core Release 1.0 (1982). This software released later became AutoCAD R14 (1989).
AutoCAD was first released for the X Window System. It ran on XFree86, which was released in 1994. AutoCAD became an X Window System server in Windows 2000. Starting with AutoCAD 2006, AutoCAD LT was the first version of AutoCAD to not be available for purchase from Autodesk.
AutoCAD was first released in 1982 and continues to be used by engineers and architects. It is also used for simple CAD drafting. The first releases did not provide built-in 2D drafting. One of the earliest 3D drafting applications was DraftSight, which was released in 1990. More powerful and more complex drafting software with more similar capabilities were released soon after.
AutoCAD has been updated to provide new features and improve previous features. Major changes include the ability to import the data from other applications, the ability to edit and create 3D objects, and to analyze 3D geometry.
This software is very easy to use and has many functions that allow users to create extremely complex drawings. There are also free editions of this product for home use that don’t require registration.
Autodesk began in 1982. The AutoCAD product was originally released for the X Window System, and XWindows remained an important part of the AutoCAD architecture until 2013, when Autodesk released a Windows application for AutoCAD on Mac and Linux, that also runs on X Windows.

ObjectARX and the Architectural design package were discontinued after AutoCAD 2010, but was ported to the Windows platform as “AutoCAD Architect” and supported the Windows version of AutoCAD.
AutoCAD in 3D
Since AutoCAD 2010, AutoCAD supports all the major 3D file formats, such as.dwg (DWG),.dxf (DXF) and.ghd (Geo-Hydro-Dynamic). It is possible to import and export from multiple formats using either the online DXF2DWG tool or DXF2CAD. It is also possible to read directly from some Autodesk Design Review files, and from parametric surfaces, which are converted to geometry. The surface of interest is parametrized with the surface editing functionality in CAD.
In AutoCAD 2012 and 2013, it is possible to use CAD-Rendered 3D drawings. In AutoCAD 2014 and beyond, it is possible to import 3D drawings in the native file format. CAD-rendered 3D drawings were a proprietary format until Autodesk acquired [SketchUp] in 2013. Autodesk continues to support the format.
AutoCAD has a number of plugins that allow the easy integration of 3D modeling into the software. These plugins include the 3D modeling tool, some surface modeling tools and the import of the SKETCHUP model format. There is also a 3D viewer available.
AutoCAD has the capability to read and write.stl, a format for models built with the 3D modeling software SketchUp. AutoCAD 2013 introduced direct import of SketchUp.stl files.
A number of plugins exist to aid in the creation of 3D models. These include the construction of surfaces of revolution, the rapid generation of a circle, sphere or cube, and the creation of solids.
3D image files (.bmp) can be created from a SketchUp scene and imported into AutoCAD. The.bmp files can also be imported into SketchUp or Maya and then exported as.dwg files. The.dwg files can be further exported as.stl files.
The ability to load.stl files directly into AutoCAD without the necessity of exporting them to other formats is one of the more significant improvements in the release of AutoCAD 2017. This feature will replace the old tool, Import

You can place points on your 2D or 3D surface as the origin, instead of the drawing. Then you can easily create objects such as the outline of a vehicle or the contours of a ship hull. You can work in a space independent of your drawing, making it easy to reference the details of a surface from any drawing you need.

You can import new objects into a drawing, and align existing drawings or objects to AutoCAD using the Drafting tool palette.
You can edit 3D objects by moving, rotating, and scaling them. You can adjust the rotations in any direction or by specifying an axis of rotation.

You can perform line-drawing functions, including rotate, copy, reverse, mirror, arc, and angle. You can copy objects, including arrows, lines, circles, and polygons.
Drafting tools in 3D:
You can create, edit, and move objects in space. You can create custom surface polygons, such as planes, tubes, and cylinders. You can easily add surfaces to a model using the surface tools or by selecting objects and dragging them to the surface of your model. You can edit surfaces by rotating and resizing the object.
Drafting tools in 2D and 3D:
The surface panel enables you to create free-form surfaces. You can add custom surface objects such as planes, circles, polygons, polygons, and cylinders.
