How to handle 5.7 second difference between server clock time and server created time of row
We have a SQL Server database with a table that has a row created time that is a datetime.
The clock on the SQL server is set to local time so that all clients are always using the same time, or all other time changes are always taken into account and the server doesn’t care.
We have a server process that runs that updates all of the datetime’s created time to the current date/time.
I have a requirement that I can’t account for. Our application has a “hotfix” that needs to be deployed at times when server time will be 5.7 seconds off from the created time of that row.
There is always a 5.7 second difference but it is never constant. As time goes by the server time will increase and the difference will go down. I would like to be able to create an SQL query that would make a “hotfix” just as quickly as possible but I am not sure how to handle the 5.7 second difference.
The table has an auto-incrementing ID.
The last 4 characters of the ID column is a datetime. We will be updating this datetime based on the server created time.
You’re going to need to come up with a formula. But, there are a few things that you can do:
Calculate the difference between the server’s time and the time the row was created.
Create a variable to store the difference
Create a variable to store the time the row was created
Update the row based on the calculated difference, the calculated time, and the stored difference.
