By the late 1980s, new microcomputers such as the Commodore Amiga, MS-DOS-based IBM PCs, Apple Macintosh, and various variants of Unix were in widespread use. Autodesk responded by adding support for Microsoft Windows and the Apple Macintosh, as well as a variety of flavors of Unix, to AutoCAD.

Now, in 2018, Autodesk is actively developing new CAD tools. The company launched the cloud-based cloud platform AutoCAD 360, released AutoCAD 360 Design, a free mobile app that connects to the cloud platform, and published AutoCAD 20, a free update of AutoCAD 20.3. Autodesk also announced a major update of AutoCAD LT to AutoCAD LT 2018. The update adds 2D/3D capabilities to LT, features that make it the ideal tool for architectural-related design and drafting. AutoCAD LT 2018 also features a new import/export functionality that allows users to start their design from a DWG file on the cloud platform or directly from files on their local machine. The update will include enhanced collaboration features, as well.

Autodesk released AutoCAD LT 2018 in September 2018, but it went out of beta in November 2017. The company launched the cloud-based cloud platform AutoCAD 360 in August 2017, which included the AutoCAD LT 2018 update that came out in June 2018. Since then, the cloud platform has gained significant traction. It now boasts more than 3 million users.

AutoCAD LT 2018 is a free update for existing AutoCAD LT users. What makes AutoCAD LT 2018 special is that it is the first version of AutoCAD LT since 2007 that runs on AutoCAD LT. Also, the AutoCAD LT 2018 release uses the cloud platform to store all of your data files. This makes it easier to share design files, collaborate with other users, and edit files offline.

Architectural designers have long been comfortable working on the desktop version of AutoCAD. However, users of the platform have also been attracted by the ability to access their files from mobile devices. Autodesk has been working to expand the range of mobile devices that can access the cloud platform. Autodesk introduced the AutoCAD app for Android in 2014. It uses AutoCAD LT. And it is one of the three

CAD Web Services (CWS) – CWS is the standard Web Services interface to CAD in Autodesk.

REST API is also available for programmers. REST Services are accessible from any programming language that supports a Web Services interface. For example, Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 Service Application Framework (SAF) provides an implementation of REST API.

XML-based API

XML-based API is a subset of web services that allows programmatic access to the objects in the drawing to modify or access information about the objects.

A form of XML-based API is also available in AutoCAD from 2009 and is called WebDAV. WebDAV is an extension to a common Internet protocol, used to transfer files. It allows users to work with files from another computer on a network, such as a local or a remote server. AutoCAD 2009 was the first CAD application to support WebDAV.

Extensions are add-ons or programs that allow users to manipulate data on a drawing or to create data. Many of these add-ons are available on the Autodesk website. Some extensions require purchase of the complete AutoCAD software package while others may be available as open-source or for sale at various prices. The AutoCAD extensions category includes these:

Additional features
AutoCAD offers many features that allow the user to obtain a specific result or perform a specific task. Some of these features are available to all users of AutoCAD while others are specific to users with a paid subscription.

Saving files
The file format for AutoCAD is the dwg format. There are a number of third-party companies that offer similar file formats. The Open Design Alliance (ODA) developed a standard for the specification of these file formats. The dwg format has many advantages over most other CAD file formats. The document format is portable, supports numerous types of data, is structured and allows using multi-track file formats.

There are several methods to save files in AutoCAD. Users of AutoCAD can save the files to a file system. However, this option is not recommended due to the limit in file sizes for a file system. This is especially problematic when the user has a relatively large drawing and needs to save the file. Users can also save their files using the Drafting View.

The Application Programming Interface (API) provides a way

If you have Autocad available, the free version of Autocad is not activated.
If Autocad LT is activated, Autocad LT is not available.

Save Autocad project file
You will be prompted to save the current project file, so choose “Save”.
Go to file in the menu (Windows-X-D) and choose the folder “Projects”.
Then open the file “autocad.ini” and paste the serial number from the key in the “autocad.ini”.

You can open the “autocad.ini” file in the Autocad Express 2012 or Autocad LT 2012.
You will have an option to change the path for the folder “Projects”.

Import the autocad project file
In the Start menu (Windows-X-D) choose “File” and go to the “Import” option.
Choose the “Import existing project” and choose the file in the folder “Projects”.
If the key has not activated the Autocad Express 2013 or Autocad LT 2013, you will be prompted to insert the key that activated it.

On the next window, choose the “Import” option and select the import option “Autocad”.

You will be prompted to choose the path where you want to import the files. Choose it and then import the file “autocad.xml”.
You will be prompted if you want to add a new layer for the imported files. Choose “Yes”.

Apply changes to the project file
