When you save the document a warning pops up to confirm, don’t cancel it.
The answer I found is that the key must have at least 256 bit.

Then I got a error message when opening the autocad with the new key

I’ll put this in an answer because there are some steps that I did not understand that led me here:
In Autocad, go to Help->Company Updates->About.
Look in the bottom left of that window. If you are using the Academic Edition, that area should be titled “Academic Edition”
If you are using the standard edition, look at the “About” tab.
In my case, the “About” tab had a section titled “Number of bits”. In this section, the default setting was 128 bits. My solution was to set it to 256 bits.
The official explanation of that error message was that “Autocad 2017 expects key sizes greater than 128 bits”. My belief is that this error was reported because of the key that was supplied by the autocad key generator online that I was using.
It was one of the reasons that I was unable to get to my desired end.
